About Us

The Tully Area Historical Society was started in 1977 by a group of Tully, NY citizens who wished to preserve Tully History and the two former church buildings located on State Street. Click for More...

2019 Ice Harvest Update:

It is looking pretty bleak that there will be an ice harvest this year. Also, because our ice harvesting display & video at the Tully Library is usually held at the same time as the Tully Rotary's Chili Cook-off, that will not be presented either as the Rotary is not having a cook-off this year. We do welcome you to the Tully Area Historical Society's Museum to see our display of ice harvesting tools & pictures from past ice harvests. We hope that next year we'll be able to revive this wonderful reenactment of Tully's past.

What We Are Working On:

  • Our list of Tully Cemetery burials/lot owners has been updated to the end of 2018 from the current cemetery burial records maintained by the supervisor.
  • Research on 3 recent genealogical queries regarding 4 Tully families continues.
  • Finding the relationships between some 40 people found in a stack of family photos is ongoing from the summer of 2018. Only 8 people remain
  • Our historical society is now registered with Guidestar.org so we can signup on Amazon.com in their "AmazonSmile" program. Through this Amazon program, the customer can choose their favorite listed nonprofit organization & AmazonSmile will donate a portion of your purchase price to it (at no cost to you). For more info, click here. Once we become available on Amazon, it will be announced on this website.
  • Reorganization of our archive room is in progress.
  • Recording & accessioning of newly donated items. (Recent donations: a set of hand bells, an ashtray from the old Tully barbershop, a very nice black & white portrait of the Hartwells (Hartwell Funeral Home) & two new books on Irving Gill). Irving Gill was born in Tully & became an internationally known architect who worked with Frank Lloyd Wright. He is well-known in the San Diego, CA area & is considered the "pioneer of the modern movement in architecture". Read his Wikipedia page click here.
  • Indexing of the "Stoppard/Willis" scrapbook continues. Recently this scrapbook was completely scanned & marital & obituaries contained in it were uploaded to this website.
  • Local books on Otisco, Spafford, Preble & Tully have been indexed to make researching for individuals easier.
  • Updating the Lena Hoag Library card catalog is in progress.
  • New recent obituaries are added weekly. See 2017-2019 Obituaries. Click this link to view.
