Enlisted in the US Navy, where he was a photographic interpretation officer in the Pacific sector. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill, which was hit by two Japanese suicide planes while off of Okinawa. He was one of three officers to survive this bombing and was crucial in bringing the wounded ship safely back to home waters.
He was discharged from the Naval Reserves in Jun 1958 as a Lieutenant Commander. |
